Evil Eye Prayers — Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas

Surah Al-Falaq (The Daybreak)

Surah Al-Falaq is the 113th surah of the Quran and one of the most recited for protection against the evil eye. "Qul a'udhu bi Rabbi'l-falaq. Min sharri ma khalaq. Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab. Wa min sharri'n-naffathati fi'l-uqad. Wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad." Translation: "Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak. From the evil of that which He created. And from the evil of darkness when it settles. And from the evil of those who blow on knots. And from the evil of the envier when he envies." The Prophet would recite Al-Falaq and An-Nas every night before sleep, blow into his palms, and wipe over his body (Bukhari).

Surah An-Nas (Mankind)

Surah An-Nas is the last surah of the Quran (114th) and together with Surah Al-Falaq, they are known as "Al-Mu'awwidhatayn" (the two protective surahs). "Qul a'udhu bi Rabbi'n-nas. Maliki'n-nas. Ilahi'n-nas. Min sharri'l-waswasi'l-khannas. Alladhi yuwaswisu fi suduri'n-nas. Mina'l-jinnati wa'n-nas." Translation: "Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind. The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind. From the evil of the retreating whisperer. Who whispers into the breasts of mankind. From among the jinn and mankind." Reciting these two surahs together creates a powerful shield of protection. It is recommended to recite them three times each, morning and evening.

When and How to Recite the Prayers

For maximum effectiveness, recite evil eye prayers at these times: After the morning prayer — establish your protection shield at the start of the day. After the evening prayer — protection through the night. Before sleep — following the Prophet's tradition of blowing into palms and wiping over the body. When leaving home — especially when going to crowded places. When someone excessively praises you or your child — immediately say "MashaAllah" and recite the prayer silently. Being in a state of ritual purity increases the prayer's power. Recite with devotion and from the heart. Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255) is also a powerful protection verse — daily recitation is recommended.
