Palo Santo Smudging
Description
Palo santo smudging is an ancestral practice originating from the indigenous peoples of South America, especially Ecuador and Peru. The sacred wood releases aromatic smoke with extraordinary purifying spiritual properties when burned.
Materials Needed
- •1-2 sustainably sourced palo santo sticks
- •1 heat-resistant dish (abalone shell or ceramic plate)
- •1 feather or fan to direct smoke
- •Open window for energy to exit
Step by Step
- 1
Open a window in each room so negative energy can exit.

Light the palo santo with a flame and let it burn for 30 seconds.

Gently blow until only the smoking ember remains.

Walk through each corner of the room anticlockwise.
- 5
Direct smoke especially to corners, behind doors, and under furniture.

Repeat a prayer or protection affirmation as you smudge.

Finish at the front door and let the smoke exit outside.

Extinguish the palo santo in the dish — it can be reused several times.

Monday at dawn or Friday at sunset. Also after the new moon to start a new protection cycle.
⚠️ Precautions
Ensure palo santo comes from sustainable sources (naturally fallen trees). Do not use in closed spaces without ventilation. People with asthma should use caution.
