Mercury turns retrograde on 24 October 2026 in Scorpio and stations direct on 13 November 2026. It is the third and last Mercury retrograde of the year, and this time it is not alone: Venus is retrograde from 3 October to 13–14 November as well, first in Scorpio and then in Libra. Finish contracts, backups and big purchases before 24 October, and use the retrograde weeks to review money, relationships and unfinished conversations rather than to launch anything new.

A quick reality check before the astrology: neither planet actually reverses. Retrograde motion is an optical effect of Earth and another planet overtaking each other on their orbits. Astrology reads that apparent backward motion symbolically: Mercury's themes (communication, contracts, travel, technology) and Venus's themes (love, money, pleasure, values) slow down and turn towards review.

Why is this Mercury retrograde different?

Two things make autumn 2026 stand out.

It is a double retrograde. Mercury and Venus are retrograde together from 24 October to 13 November, and both turn direct around the same day. Mercury governs how we talk and decide; Venus governs what and whom we value. When both review at once, conversations about money and relationships are the ones most likely to be reopened: the "we need to talk" season, in business and in private.

It happens in Scorpio. Mercury spends its entire retrograde in Scorpio, the sign of depth, shared resources and the things people keep private. Venus starts its retrograde there too, before backing into Libra, the sign of partnership and fair terms. In practice that points to three areas:

Checklist: 10 things to do before 24 October

Work through this list in the first three weeks of October, ideally early in Mercury's shadow.

1. Back up your phone and computer, then restore one file to prove the backup actually works.
2. Sign pending contracts early. Leases, job offers, sales: aim to finish before 24 October. If a signature has to happen during the retrograde, read every clause twice.
3. Service your devices and car. Install updates, replace the swollen battery, book the overdue service now.
4. Close open conversations. The reply you owe, the apology you postponed: settle them on your own terms before they resurface on theirs.
5. Audit shared finances. Loan terms, insurance, standing orders and subscriptions. Cancel what you no longer use.
6. Confirm travel for late October and November. Check names, dates and connections, and save copies of documents to your phone.
7. Reschedule launches. Move website launches, product releases and first announcements to before 24 October or to late November.
8. Decide on big purchases now. Electronics (Mercury) and luxury items (Venus) are classic retrograde regrets. Buy before the 24th or wait until after the 13th.
9. Postpone dramatic makeovers. Venus retrograde is traditionally a poor time for major cosmetic procedures or radical style changes; book them for mid-December or later if you can.
10. Put the dates in your calendar: 24 October, 13 November and the shadow edges on 4 October and 29–30 November. Knowing a phase is temporary is half the calm.

What to expect week by week

4–23 October: pre-shadow, with Venus already retrograde. Themes start to surface quietly: a contract detail that looks odd, a message from someone you have not heard from in a while. With Venus retrograde since 3 October, questions about money and relationships tend to arrive first. This is the best window for the checklist.

24 October to early November: Mercury stations and retrogrades. The days around a station are the most sensitive, so avoid scheduling critical signings or launches on 24 October itself. Expect delays, rescheduled meetings and people from the past. On 25 October Venus moves back into Libra, and the emphasis shifts from intensity to fairness: who does what, who pays what.

Early November to 13 November: towards the direct station. Answers that have been forming for weeks become clearer, though not overnight. Mercury and Venus both turn direct around 13 November, and the days right around a station still feel slow.

14–30 November: post-shadow. Decisions settle and delayed plans restart. Late November is the most comfortable window for launches and signatures. There is no Mercury retrograde in December 2026, although Venus stays in its shadow until mid-December, so relationship decisions still benefit from a little patience.

Leo

Virgo
